Jacinta Horan
Specialist Sports Physiotherapist 2019, Masters Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (Honors) AUT 2007, PG Certificate Acupuncture AUT 2005, BPhty Otago 2000.
My time is split between consulting roles as a Specialist Sports Physiotherapist in New Zealand and overseas (as COVID allows) in addition to international campaigns with NZ teams. Alongside this I work on a number of projects including being part of WHISPA (Healthy Women In Sport), which is a High Performance initiative ensuring that we make the most of up to date research, knowledge base and systems implementation for our female athletes to ensure not only success on the world stage but also healthy life beyond their competing years.
I also present at a variety of conferences and workshops throughout the year particularly in the greater Bay of Plenty for Sports BOP in addition to groups such as Sports and Exercise Physiotherapy NZ and PNZ. It is a privilege to share the knowledge I have gained from working in International sport for over 20 years to colleagues within the health profession as well as the sporting community as a whole.
My Experience
After 10 years of working with local and representative rugby, I spent 9 years working in NZ Womens Rugby with both the Blackferns and Blackferns 7s including being part of two World Cup winning teams and culminating with being part of the team who won silver at the Rio Olympics. This was followed with being a core health team member at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021 which was another great experience working with a variety of athletes and sports across the board.
I have a variety of other International sports experiences including working with National teams in Althletics, Waterpolo, Surf Lifesaving, Youth Olympics and the World University Games. I am looking forward to my ongoing High Performance Sport NZ campaigns in the future.
